Education on Gender and Sexuality
In addition to running JCTS since its founding in April 2015, facilitator Beau Ohlgren provides educational and consultancy services for local schools, organizations, and professional groups on gender and sexuality.
Biography
Beau Ohlgren is an educator, facilitator, and community organizer and has been leading workshops, facilitating groups, and running trainings on gender, sexuality, and working with transgender folks since 2011. He’s worked with all ages, and with groups ranging from therapists to church-workers, university staff to doctors.
Beau holds an MSc in International Relations with a focus on gender in cross-cultural contexts from University of Edinburgh, and is passionate about providing practical skills and a true depth of knowledge on gender and sexuality for his audiences.
He runs the Jefferson County Transgender Support Group in Port Townsend and enjoys using his extensive experience and study to increase knowledge and compassion in our communities.

Services
Each training is catered to a specific audience, with a focus on practical skills and contextual knowledge. There is an expectation of meeting beforehand to understand specific institutional or group history in regards to transgender folks and goals of a training, and the training will be developed from that discussion.
Terminology, power and privilege dynamics, allyship, sexuality and gender continuums, legal information and historical background, example scenarios, suggestions for working with or programming for transgender people, and understanding the history, needs, and general experiences of transgender folks are some possible contents of a training. Clients are welcome to suggest contents and collaborate on specific elements (e.g. database entry processes for recording trans patient information or adaptations for policies around housing) if desired. The more specific a client can be, the more targeted and useful the training can be.
